GeeKon 2015 Schedule

Below is the schedule for GeeKon 2015.  As more events and details get added we will add them to the schedule.  We at the GeeKon Record are super excited as this event is growing

Monday February 23rd

Madden Football Tournament,Pohl Rec Center, 4:30PM

Are you a wizard of Madden.  Come crush your challengers at the Rec Center.

Tuesday February 24th

Star Trek Bridge Simulator, Bruce Concert Hall, 6-9pm

We are calling all Captains to the bridge your ship needs you.  Weather it be an angry hostile rebel leader or a full on Borg attack your leadership skills will be tested completely as you attempt to save the day.

Wednesday  February 25th

Ollivander’s Wand Workshop, Bruce Concert Hall, 3:00-5:00PM

Fans of Harry Potter gather together in a friendly community and build their own wand, and get to experience part of the Wizading World.

GeeKon Maker Exhibit, Library Forum, 5:00-8:00pm,

The Factory is UNT’s Makerspace. Makerspaces are places where people can meet and work on any number of creative projects including 3D printing, robotics, crafts, and more.  The Maker Exhibit will bring together some of UNT’s Makers to showcase their projects and highlight the resources available in The Factory.  Please join us from 5-8pm February 25th in the Willis Library Forum as we celebrate the power of making with GeeKon! Food and drinks will be provided.

Geek Girl Panel, Honors Common Room,  6:00PM

Are you a geek? Are you a Girl? Are you both?!  This is your chance to ask questions of fellow geek Girls that maybe you really want to know.

GeeKon RHA Cosplay Runway, Maple Hall Trophy Room, 7:00 PM

Residents will put on their best cosplay type costume and walk down a runway. Residents will vote and the top three residents will win prizes.

Guardians of the Galaxy, Willis Library Forum,  8:00 pm

A group of interstellar outlaws team up to save the galaxy from a villain who seeks ultimate power in this comic book space adventure.

KERR-Mazing Race GeeKon Edition, Kerr Hall Lobby, 4:00 PM

Campus wide scavenger quest highlighting different resources and offices on campus.

Thursday February 26th

The Harry Potter Experience, College Inn Maroon Room, 7:00-9:00 PM

This program is a direct complement to UNT’s own Geekon week, residents and staff will immerse themselves in all things Harry Potter, from making butter beer and wands, to watching Harry Potter movies, and playing wizard games!!

RHA Fandom Fued, Bruce Hall Lobby, 7:30-10:00PM

The Fandom Feud  is going to be a mash up of Family Feud and Trivia Crack. There will be a wheel to spin withh categories and teams will have to shout the correct answer. The winning team of each round will receive a prize.

Friday February 27th

Wand Auction, Willis Library Fish Bowl, 3:00-5:00PM

Students who made wands at Ollivander’s Wand Workshop will get to auction their wands off, and the donations will go to Reading is Fundamental.

GeeKon 2nd Annual Bruce Magic Tournament, Bruce Lobby, 7:00-10:00PM

Each game represents a battle between wizards known as “planeswalkers”, who employ spells, artifacts, and creatures depicted on individual Magic cards to defeat their opponents. Although the original concept of the game drew heavily from the motifs of traditional fantasy role-playing games such as Dungeons & Dragons, the gameplay of Magic bears little similarity to pencil-and-paper adventure games, while having substantially more cards and more complex rules than many other card games.

Super Smash Tournament, Honors Hall Common and Living Rooms, 2:30PM

Campus wide battle of the ages between in smash brothers between all residents!

Keynote Speaker Bill Rosemann  Auditorium Building 7:00 PM

Marvel and Marvel Games Creative Director Bill Rosemann talks about his years of experience and how superheroes can affect your life as part of the University of North Texas’ 2014-15 Mary Jo and V. Lane Rawlins Fine Arts Series.

Saturday February 28th

Mini A-Kon VIIDenton Civic Center and The Emily Fowler Library, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

We will have all the great things we always have at Mini A-Kon, like gaming, great guests, fun panels, amazing artists, but now we will have even more.  Because of all the great support (and XP) from all our fans, we now are larger and better than before.  It will be at the Emily Fowler Central Library and the Denton Civic Center.  That’s right we need a convention hall and a library to bring you all the crazy stuff for Mini A-Kon this time.  We will be adding things like a full dealers room, more panels, more cosplay, and we’re working on adding stuff until the day of.

Comic Book Symposium, Business Leadership Building (BLB room 170), 9:30am-5:00pm

This one-day con headlines student scholarship, academic research & inquiry, as well as interaction with comics professionals and industry pros!  This year’s keynote speaker is Dr. Matthew Brown, Assistant Professor of Philosophy and Director of UT Dallas’ Center for Values in Medicine, Science, and Technology. Professor Brown teaches a variety of courses in philosophy, history of ideas, emerging media and communication, and cognitive science.

Denton City Pokemon Tournament, Gamestop on 1601 Brinker,  6:00PM

Are you a Pokemon Master? Show your skills and win a $50 dollar Gamestop gift card.  Registration from 4:00PM-6:00PM.
